"Rewards can be used in order for organizations to motivate employees and increase job performance. Previous research regarding rewards affecting job performance often discusses either intrinsic rewards or intrinsic rewards. Therefore, the purpose of this literature review is to explain how the combination of intrinsic and extrinsic rewards can be used in order to increase job performance. Theories about intrinsic rewards, such as feedback and autonomy, together with theories about extrinsic rewards, such as financial rewards, bonuses/benefits, promotions and job security, will be described and researched. The analysis shows what rewards can be combined, which leads the authors to the conclusion that job performance can be enhanced by combining feedback with financial reviews, autonomy with financial rewards, autonomy with job security and autonomy with bonuses. Though, motivation is closely related to job performance and therefore, future research would benefit from including this concept."
